Half a dozen Australian Pied Oystercatchers let me sit on a nearby rock and observe them feeding, napping, and having an occasional paddle.
It would have been nice if one of them had been the relatively rare South Island Pied Oystercatcher I was hoping to find, but none of them was. They were every bit as beautiful though.
